Regulation Mapping

One of the Lab’s flagships is the Regulation Mapping Project. This project is designed to keep abreast of national and international regulatory developments aimed at artificial intelligence. By comprehensively mapping and analyzing existing and emerging regulatory frameworks, we aim to provide policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the academic community with up-to-date insights into the evolving landscape of AI regulation.

Risk Event Register

The Risk Event Register is a critical initiative undertaken by the Lab to systematically track and analyze “risk events” associated with artificial intelligence that impact the Canadian legal system. We define a “risk event” as any incident in the legal sector or justice system in Canada where the use of AI has exposed an organization or individual to risk and/or liability, including court decisions. This project aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances and consequences of AI-related incidents, thereby informing future risk management and regulatory strategies.

Jurisprudence AI Risk Analysis

The Jurisprudence AI Risk Analysis project focuses on monitoring common law decisions from Canada, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the European Union to identify instances where the use of artificial intelligence may cause or has caused harm. By leveraging AI to analyze all available court decisions discussing AI usage and their outcomes, the project aims to provide researchers with a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of AI-related risks.
